We’ve discussed some of the most common air conditioning problems Indianapolis faces, but now we’re going to talk to you about some common air conditioner troubles that you can help troubleshoot.
Your air conditioner is on but not blowing cool air.
If your AC is running but not truly cooling, you may need to have your refrigerant levels examined. Refrigerant is required to make sure the air coming out of your AC is truly cool and keeps your home comfortable. Low refrigerant is oftentimes a symptom of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged properly.
One way to confirm if you are low on refrigerant is to go to your A/C system and locate the two copper pipes. If the larger of the two is “sweating” or producing condensation, touch the pipe to feel if it’s cold. If it is, you are most likely good to go and won’t need additional refrigerant.
If you’re unsure or the pipe is not covered in condensation and is not cold to the touch, call Broad Ripple Service Experts and we’ll pay you a visit and confirm your refrigerant levels and discover why your system is not blowing cool air. Note: only an EPA Certified technician should handle refrigerant for central A/C systems, due to the dangers of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.
You air condenser fan isn’t circulating.
There are many reasons your condenser fan isn’t rotating. One is that it merely burned out and you need a replacement. Humidity generally causes more condensation so another issue to watch for is that the water is not draining correctly or that the drain is blocked. If you can verify these things, you may be able to find the trouble; but, if not, give Broad Ripple Service Experts a call and we can determine what has stopped your condenser fan from circulating and walk you through your options to get your air conditioning problem resolved.
Your air conditioner is not providing adequate air cooling.
First thing’s first: try decreasing the temperature on your thermostat. It seems silly but sometimes it’s easy to overlook the obvious. If that doesn’t get your AC cooling, check and swap out the air filter. If the air filter is obstructed, it could cause significant cooling troubles. Another thing that could cause your lack of cooling is an AC that is not sized properly, and unfortunately this is a very common issue when homes are designed. Broad Ripple Service Experts is happy to come out and complete an analysis to confirm whether or not the size of your A/C system is causing your troubles.
AC shuts on and off constantly
If your A/C system is short cycling, or turning on or off consistently, it could mean one of many things. One thing is that your condenser or evaporator is blocked or dirty and should be cleaned. Once the equipment is cleaned and all blockages moved away, you may be back to a normal running air conditioner. Remember that humidity also plays a role so if the home cools to the correct temperatures, but then the humidity causes your home to heat up quickly, this could cause an on-again, off-again air conditioner because it’s having to work overtime to keep your family cool and comfortable.
No matter your trouble, whatever common or uncommon air conditioning trouble you run into, Broad Ripple Service Experts is here for you around the clock. We are available to you so we can get your A/C cooling and get your comfortable lickety-split.
