There are times when unfortunate things can happen to wonderful people. And sometimes, these people turn their misfortune into an occasion to help others. Many in the heating and AC service industry know a man who did just that. His name is Joe Groh, and he lives here in the DFW area.
Joe was employed in the HVAC industry for close to 30 years before a biking accident left him paralyzed from the neck down. Notwithstanding his immobility, Joe wanted to stay active in the HVAC industry, so he founded the Joseph Groh Foundation. The foundation works with companies in the construction trades industries, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical and roofing, to provide short and long-term disability insurance for their employees. It also is an information forum on spinal cord injuries.
The Joseph Groh Foundation also offers financial assistance to those in the industry or their family members who have experienced a life altering injury or illness. Recipients have used money from the foundation in a number of ways, including making homes wheel chair accessible by widening doorways, adding ramps, redoing flooring and purchasing adaptive equipment. To satisfy financial assistance requests, the foundation holds a variety of fundraisers throughout the year.
Broad Ripple Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning regularly supports Joe and his mission to help others in the HVAC industry that have been impacted by a life altering accident and was proud to sponsor one of the Joseph Groh Foundation’s recent golf tournament fundraisers. The Service Experts Tournament for the Joseph Groh Foundation took place at Coyote Ridge Golf Club in the Dallas TX metro area on May 4. With 131 golfers on the links this year, the tournament raised more than $52,000.
“We are proud to support Joe and his efforts to support others with his real life message of inspiring hope through adversity,” says Scott Boxer, CEO and President of Service Experts. “Whether it’s in Indianapolis or the nearly 85 markets across North America, Service Experts is committed to the communities we serve.”
While Broad Ripple Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning supports a number of charities and organizations across Indianapolis, we’re extremely proud to give back to organizations in the HVAC industry. To learn more about the Joseph Groh Foundation, visit josephgrohfoundation.org.
