What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Broad Ripple Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Indianapolis always tells you about how our technicians are NATE-certified, and while it sounds reassuring, what does it really mean?

NATE is an abbreviation for North American Technician Excellence and, as stated on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be NATE-certified. The certification is discretionary and technicians can work in the heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration industry without being certified through NATE.

It’s important to Broad Ripple Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning that our technicians are NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these standards, the NATE-certification exams validate real-world working knowledge of HVACR systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Broad Ripple Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only specific areas applicable to our technicians. NATE exam candidates may receive installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
