Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last several weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cold nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than turning in at night and realizing your furnace won’t turn on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself before calling Broad Ripple Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should swap out standard air filters every 30 days. If you don’t, they can end up clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but verify the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Broad Ripple Service Experts a call at 317-527-0271 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
