Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last several weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than turning in at night and realizing your furnace won’t turn on. If this happens to you, here are a couple things you can check yourself before your call Broad Ripple Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should swap out standard air filters monthly. If you don’t, they can become clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but verify the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your heating system will still not start up, give Broad Ripple Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 317-527-0271 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
