"On March 3, 2023, we had a check-up of our H-Vac system scheduled. Together with a technician by the name of Evan came Jeff Eaton. After the inspection we were told that our system is pretty close on its last leg, and we asked Jeff to give us pricing for a new system. After we decided on one, Jeff set a date for installation, which was March 10, 2023. Papers were signed and we prepared for the installation.
On March 10, we moved everything close to the system out, moved furniture around to make carrying equipment in as easy as possible for the installers. According to Jeff, they were supposed to be at our house between 8:30 and 9:00am, but he said it would be most likely closer to 9:00 and that it should take between 4 and 6 hours. Since nobody had called by 9:15, I called Broadripple Heating Services to find out if something had come up or if they were still coming. The lady who answered the phone checked the calendar and informed me that our installation was scheduled for March 20. Though I was frustrated, I told her that my mood was not directed at her, but that she answered the phone and now had to listen to my reaction to the news. I said that nobody had called me and that you cant just schedule a date without checking to see if that works for us. She said she was going to try to get someone to call me and discuss a date.
As soon as I hung up, I called Jeff Eaton. He was very upbeat when he answered, asking in a very chipper way, So, how is it going? I told him that it wasnt going at all and that I had been told that the installation was scheduled for the 20th instead. He told me that he was going to check with someone and call me back. Right after this call, I received another call from Broadripple, stating that the installers would still be out that day and that the heat pump hadnt arrived until 9:00 am that morning. Between that call and 9:30 I received a call from the installer named Scott. He said that he was on the north side of Indianaplis and that he was on his way. I used to work up by the pyramids and know how long it takes to drive from there to my house. So, we thought he would get here around 10:30 or 10:45, but he didnt get here until about 11:40. Half the day was about gone by that time. I just appreciated that he at least called.
We feel that if the heat pump hadnt arrived, someone should have called us and informed us about that, so we could decide whether we still wanted to go ahead with the installation or set a new date.
After he arrived here, he got started immediately and a little later another installer (from Togo, I dont remember how to spell his name) got here to help. Scott worked on the inside and the other one on the outside. Scott told us that he expected another person (his boss and trainer Shaun) to help move things along. When he opened the box with the inside unit, he saw that it was made for the air going UP, but our setup was for the air to go DOWN. So, he proceeded to take it apart and adjust it to fit our situation. Now, the name and everything else on the unit is upside down. I dont understand why Lennox would only make one style, when not every house is built the same; if Lennox does have both, then I dont understand why we ended up with the wrong one.
There was a lot of adjusting going on. Very late in the afternoon another person (Jacob)arrived and we had FOUR people here. Something wasnt working right and so the asked an expert (Jacob) to come and try to figure things out. What we were told around 9:00 pm was that the cold air was working fine, but the problem with the heat persisted. While having all kinds of instruments hooked up outside and hooking up the hose to the outside water faucet, the thermostat was set on 80°F. It got pretty warm in here, but it kept running high until they left around 9:30 pm. Then I was able to turn it back down to 68°F. We were told that they needed to replace a part and that someone would be out on Saturday, March 11. When I asked what time they planned on getting here, I was told that they couldnt say for sure, but that someone needed to be home. After all, when everything was working properly, they needed to get paid. Saturday came and went; there was nobody out and we didnt receive a call. We had to make sure someone would be home all day, and my son and I had to adjust to this type of schedule. We expected to at least get an update.
Meanwhile, the fan is running continuously, because that is how they set it up. One room in the house (farthest west) which used to be the warmest, is now the coldest. If the thermostat is set to 70° F we only get 67.3. We usually spend most of the day in this room. I cant afford to pay a higher electric bill, just because the fan runs all the time. At least the old furnace (also a Lennox) shut down when reaching the required temperature. This unit is also louder than the old one, and there is a steady whistle when its running.
